• Report: UMDNJ finances in sad shape The financial diagnosis for the state's
  medical and dental school is far worse than previously disclosed, according to a new
  report released by the federal monitor overseeing the University of Medicine and Dentistry
  of New Jersey. Instead of $75M, the amount of money UMDNJ owes the federal and state
  governments could well top $125M, plus fines and penalties, the report says Star-Ledger      

• Med school executives dined with racketeer Top executives at the state's medical
  university met three times for dinner -- charging the meals to the school -- with a convicted

PA Environment

• PA says its deep mines are safe for workers The state’s active underground mines are
  operating safely, the DEP says following new inspections done after the deaths of 16 mine
  workers in West Virginia since early January Inquirer Post-Gazette

• PPL hit with class-action ash spill suit  The promised 12-count suit seeks damages,
  including punitive damages, against the utility for the spill in which an estimated 100 million
  gallons of fly-ash tainted water leaked from a lined 40-acre basin. The contaminated water
  flooded land near the basin, a small intermittent creek and the Delaware River from Aug. 23-27
