• Flu pandemic would overwhelm the state If New Jersey is hit by an anticipated influenza
  pandemic, more than 8,100 residents will die — and that's a conservative estimate from the
  state health department.  "You're going to be staying home for one year. There will be no school,
  there will be no work," says the state’s Homeland Security director Associated Press

• Amid scandals, monitor to remain at troubled UMDNJ Last December when he charged
  the state's medical university with Medicaid fraud and installed a federal monitor to clean the place

• Environmental crime prosecutions netted state $1.2M The Environmental Crimes Bureau
  obtained 19 indictments and accusations against 21 defendants in 2006, resulting in $1.2M in fines

• Fire ravages C&D recycling warehouse in N. Bergen Eagle Recycling was one of the few
  facilities in Hudson County to process construction and demolition waste and the only one with its
  own recycling system, said the executive director of the county improvement authority Star-Ledger

• Pondering ways to fix state roadways  As Pennsylvania motorists often discover when
  they drive out of state, the grass may not be greener on the other side, but the asphalt is

• $1.5B in federal funds anticipated for abandoned mine repairs in PA According to the
  Abandoned Mine Land inventory, there are at least 175 sites identified as high priority in Schuylkill

• Still bailing and sinking The 2006 hurricane season was far more benign than predicted, but
  it may have done serious damage to efforts to salvage the floundering National Flood Insurance
