Lawmakers want polluters to pay bigger penalties
State Senators
Joseph Vitale and
Barbara Buono plan today to introduce the Environmental Enforcement Enhancement
Act, which
calls for penalties to rise from $1,000 to $50,000 per day and broader DEP
enforcement powers.
The act would affect the state's laws on wetlands protection, preservation,
flood control, waterfront redevelopment regulations, dam safety, pesticide,
water quality and endangered animals, says
